ScopeMarine and terrestrial ecosystems are frequently subjected to high inputs of wet and dry atmospheric deposition. Aerosol deposition provide dissolved and particulate constituents such as inorganic nutrients and organic matter required for sustaining productivity, as well as toxic metals and other pollutants. In addition, dust also provide a wide array of viable airborne microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses that, in turn, can also affect productivity and impose strong constraints on global climate changes. These impacts may vary based on the aerosol load, source, trajectory, and its chemical and biological characteristics.

We welcome contributions studying the effects of aerosols on aquatic and terrestrial systems in particular the interactions between aerosols and organisms (i.e., biomass, activity, diversity). Approaches may include in situ observations, laboratory mesocosm/microcosm experiments and modeling.
