Scope To ensure the safety of nuclear power plants in an earthquake/volcano prone country like Japan, understanding of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions phenomenon, and predictions of disaster based on it are essential. But the understanding is very limited, and thus predictions of disaster have huge uncertainties. This session discusses how this situation should be considered, dealt with and communicated among earth scientists, related engineers, policy-makers and the society. Contributions on more general issues of the entitled area are also welcome.
Type of presentation Oral and Poster presentation
